New surgery centers to lower costs, increase access

September 25, 2019In the News

In a recent Albuquerque Journal article, Clay Holderman, Presbyterian's chief operating officer and executive vice president, highlighted three new ambulatory surgery centers. More than 22,000 surgeries will move from hospital-based operating rooms to the lower cost, more convenient surgery centers.

Moving surgeries from a hospital to outpatient sites is a rare move for most health systems as reimbursement is higher in a hospital setting, he said.

"Many health systems won't disrupt themselves," Holderman said. "That's really what we're doing here."
