Breast Surgical Oncology

Presbyterian Cancer Care provides inpatient and outpatient services in New Mexico for women with benign and malignant breast disease. Our Presbyterian Medical Group breast surgical oncologists perform mastectomies, lumpectomies, sentinel lymph node biopsies, axillary lymph node dissections, excisional breast biopsies, and oncoplastic partial mastectomies. They are fellowship trained in minimally invasive techniques, as well as nipple and skin sparing mastectomies.

We offer comprehensive breast care for the following conditions:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of all stages of breast cancers
  • Complex/oncoplastic breast surgeries
  • High risk breast disease management (atypia, lobular carcinoma in situ, ADH, ALH, phyllodes tumors)
  • Surgical biopsy for benign disease (fibroadenoma, papilloma, complex sclerosing lesions, fibroepithelial lesions, hamartomas, granular cell tumors)
  • Diagnostic breast biopsies for discordant lesions
  • Prophylactic mastectomies for women with a high lifetime risk of breast cancer
  • Lymph node biopsy, sentinel lymph node assessment, and axillary lymph node dissections
  • Facilitation for patient enrollment in clinical trials

All patient cases are reviewed at weekly, multidisciplinary tumor board meetings that are attended by breast surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, Presbyterian MD Anderson radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and multiple support staff. We pride ourselves in having a very strong team of support staff including, but not limited to, nurse navigators, social workers, psychiatrists, nutritionists, palliative care specialists, physical and occupational therapists, and financial advocates.
